Amber Amber Amber

I got my first amber at Detroit’s African World Festival many years ago. It was a string of raw amber beads from Mali that I had made into a wonderful wrap bracelet that I wear when I need to have my energy grounded. Needless to say, these beads are one of my favorite wellness tools!

My amber world was rocked when I was in Accra, Ghana and saw the largest piece of amber that I’ve seen in real life. I picked it up to inspect it at a village stone shop and fell in love. Unfortunately, I saw it on my last day in Ghana and DUE TO COVID-19, I paused on purchasing because I was fresh out of cedis and credit/debit cards are not always accepted so I walked away from it.

Months later, the same piece of Amber that captured my heart is now part of my life and added to my wellness tools!

The energy that I feel from this hunk of ancient resin is amazing and abundant!

My passion for amber has also extended by offering amber pieces for sale through my new Sankofa Shop that I have been running since my trip to Ghana.

I will go into more detail about the Sankofa Shop later, but it is a real thing that is now living and thriving via word or mouth and Instagram.

What is Amber Exactly?

Amber is fossilized resin from conifers and it takes millions of years for form. Conifers are cone-bearing seed plants. You may know them more commonly as evergreens or pine trees etc. Confier resin protects the plants against insects and fungi. It is a sticky substance in which insects or plant debris can easily get trapped. It is very common to find amber with various insects or plant matter.

Amber IS NOT a mineral/crystal/stone per sé.

What Can be Done With Amber?

Amber is known to bring energy balance, purification, protection, psychic shielding, healing, calmness, patience, romance and sensuality. It is also good for abundance, success, vitality, and joy.

Amber can be utilized when we are feeling powerless or out of control, to remind us of our inner strength and past greatness.

Since amber is not a mineral or true crystal, it can be heated and melted to be reshaped.  Additionally, it can also be burned like incense or used in fragrances.

Chakra Connection?

Amber’s primary chakra connection is through the solar plexus chakra.  The Solar Plexus is the 3rd chakra in our 7-chakra system. It is also known as the chakra of personal power and located two inches above the navel at the base of the rib cage. The solar plexus is the seat of our ego and where we draw motivation to achieve our goals and shine though our personal power. The color associated with the solar plexus is yellow and it is connected to the element of fire.

Amber is also associated with the root, sacral, and throat chakras.

How Does Amber Work For Us?

Theories have suggested that when amber is worn on the skin (usually as jewelry or as loose stones), the skin’s warmth helps the amber release succinic acid also known as a healing oil from. The Succinic Acid is then absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.

Conversely, other theories based on scientific study, have shown that amber is electromagnetically alive and produces organic energy.

Like with many things in the natural healing world, beliefs and science combined create a gray area so amber benefits are personal and subjective.

Do you use amber in your healing toolkit? If yes, how has it been a benefit to your world?
